Developed in the 1830s by Samuel Morse and Alfred Vail for the electrical telegraph, Morse code revolutionized long-distance telecommunications. 2. The Mathematical "Paris Standard" WPM Timing Calibration▼
Transmission speed is calibrated using the standard international reference word "PARIS " (which equals exactly 50 dot time units). The duration of a single unit (1 dot) is computed as:
Duration of 1 Dot Unit (ms) = 1200 / WPM
Under standard ITU ratios: 1 Dash = 3 Dots; Intracharacter gap = 1 Dot; Intercharacter gap = 3 Dots; Interword gap = 7 Dots.
