Step 1: Ihram & Niyyah (Sacred Intent)

✂️ Preparation & Etiquettes before Ihram

  • Ghusl (Ritual Bath): Take a thorough bath prior to crossing the Miqat boundary.
  • Grooming: Trim mustache, clip nails, and remove unwanted body hair before entering Ihram.
  • Attar (Perfume): Apply perfume to the body (head/beard) before making Niyyah. Do NOT perfume the Ihram garments directly.
  • Ihram Garments:
    Men: Two clean, unstitched white towels (Rida' for upper body, Izar for lower body) & unstitched sandals leaving ankles & top of feet exposed.
    Women: Any modest, loose-fitting Islamic attire (Abaya) leaving face and hands uncovered.

You MUST enter Ihram and make Niyyah before passing these physical boundary lines:

Dhu'l-Hulayfah (Abyar 'Ali): Coming from Madinah (~450km North).
Yalamlam (Al-Sa'diyyah): Coming from Yemen, South/SE Asia & Flights (~100km South).
Qarn al-Manazil (As-Sayl): Coming from Najd, Riyadh, UAE, Qatar (~75km East).
Al-Juhfah (Rabigh): Coming from Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Europe/Americas (~183km NW).
Dhat 'Irq: Coming from Iraq & Iran (~94km NE).

1. Idtiba' (Men only): Uncover right shoulder by placing upper Ihram garment under right armpit and over left shoulder.

👨 Men's Hair Trimming Guidelines

  • Halq (Shaving Head): Completely shaving the head yields 3 times greater reward and forgiveness. Highly recommended for men.
  • Taqsir (Trimming Hair): Trimming hair evenly from all over the head (at least fingertip length across the entire head). Trimming just a few strands is insufficient.

👩 Women's Hair Trimming Guidelines

  • Taqsir Only: Women trim approximately one inch / fingertip length (around 1-2 cm) from the ends of their hair gathered in a ponytail or braid.
  • Privacy: Hair trimming must be done in private (hotel room or designated female restrooms in the Haram complex), not publicly in front of non-Mahram men.

1. The Sacred Talbiyah of Umrah
لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ لَبَّيْكَ، لَبَّيْكَ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَكَ لَبَّيْكَ، إِنَّ الْحَمْدَ وَالنِّعْمَةَ لَكَ وَالْمُلْكَ، لاَ شَرِيكَ لَكَ
Labbayk Allahumma labbayk, labbayka la sharika laka labbayk. Innal-hamda wan-ni'mata laka wal-mulk, la sharika lak.
"Here I am O Allah, here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I am. Verily all praise, grace, and sovereignty belong to You. You have no partner."
2. Dua Upon Entering Masjid al-Haram
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَالصَّلاَةُ وَالسَّلاَمُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ، اللَّهُمَّ افْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ
Bismillahi was-salatu was-salamu 'ala Rasulillah. Allahumma-ftah li abwaba rahmatik.
"In the name of Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, open for me the doors of Your mercy."
3. Dua Upon First Seeing the Holy Kaaba
اللَّهُمَّ زِدْ هَذَا الْبَيْتَ تَشْرِيفًا وَتَعْظِيمًا وَتَكْرِيمًا وَمَهَابَةً، وَزِدْ مَنْ شَرَّفَهُ وَكَرَّمَهُ مِمَّنْ حَجَّهُ أَوِ اعْتَمَرَهُ تَشْرِيفًا وَتَكْرِيمًا وَتَعْظِيمًا وَبِرًّا
Allahumma zid hadhal-bayta tashrifan wa ta'dhiman wa takriman wa mahabah, wa zid man sharrafahu wa karramahu mimman hajjahu awi'-tamarahu tashrifan wa takriman wa ta'dhiman wa birra.
"O Allah, increase this House in honor, esteem, respect, and awe, and increase whoever honors and respects it from among those who perform Hajj or Umrah in honor, respect, esteem, and piety."
4. Dua at Hajar al-Aswad (Starting Each Tawaf Circuit)
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، اللَّهُمَّ إِيمَانًا بِكَ وَتَصْدِيقًا بِكِتَابِكَ وَوَفَاءً بِعَهْدِكَ وَاتِّبَاعًا لِسُنَّةِ نَبِيِّكَ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ
Bismillahi Allahu Akbar. Allahumma imanan bika wa tasdiqan bikitabika wa wafa'an bi'ahdika wattiba'an lisunnati nabiyyika Muhammadin sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam.
"In the name of Allah, Allah is the Greatest. O Allah, out of faith in You, belief in Your Book, fulfillment of Your covenant, and following the Sunnah of Your Prophet Muhammad ﷺ."
5. Between Rukn Yamani & Black Stone
رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil-akhirati hasanatan wa qina 'adhaban-nar.

6. Dua After 2 Rak'ahs Behind Maqam Ibrahim
اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ تَعْلَمُ سِرِّي وَعَلاَنِيَتِي فَاقْبَلْ مَعْذِرَتِي، وَتَعْلَمُ حَاجَتِي فَأَعْطِنِي سُؤْلِي، وَتَعْلَمُ مَا فِي نَفْسِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي ذُنُوبِي
Allahumma innaka ta'lamu sirri wa 'alaniyati faqbal ma'dhirati, wa ta'lamu hajati fa'tini su'li, wa ta'lamu ma fi nafsi faghfir li dhunubi.
"O Allah, You know my secret and my open actions, so accept my excuse. You know my need, so grant my request. You know what is within myself, so forgive my sins."
7. Dua When Drinking Zamzam Water
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا وَاسِعًا، وَشِفَاءً مِنْ كُلِّ دَاءٍ
Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan wasi'an, wa shifa'an min kulli da'.
"O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, abundant provision, and healing from every illness."
8. Recitation Approaching Mount Safa
إِنَّ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةَ مِن شَعَآئِرِ اللَّهِ ۖ أَبْدَأُ بِمَا بَدَأَ اللَّهُ بِهِ

9. Supplication Standing Upon Safa & Marwah
لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ، لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ، أَنْجَزَ وَعْدَهُ، وَنَصَرَ عَبْدَهُ، وَهَزَمَ الأَحْزَابَ وَحْدَهُ
La ilaha illallahu wahdahu la sharika lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu wa huwa 'ala kulli shay'in qadir. La ilaha illallahu wahdah, anjaza wa'dah, wa nasara 'abdah, wa hazamal-ahzaba wahdah.
"There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah alone, with no partner. To Him belongs sovereignty and praise, and He is over all things competent. There is no deity except Allah alone; He fulfilled His promise, granted victory to His servant, and defeated the confederates alone."
10. General Supplication During Sa'i Laps
رَبِّ اغْفِرْ وَارْحَمْ وَاعْفُ وَتَكَرَّمْ وَتَجَاوَزْ عَمَّا تَعْلَمُ، إِنَّكَ تَعْلَمُ مَا لاَ نَعْلَمُ، إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ اللَّهُ الأَعَزُّ الأَكْرَمُ
Rabbighfir warham wa'fu wa takarram wa tajawaz 'amma ta'lam, innaka ta'lamu ma la na'lam, innaka antallahul-a'azzul-akram.
"O Lord, forgive, have mercy, pardon, be generous, and overlook what You know. Indeed, You know what we do not know. Truly You are Allah, the Most Mighty, the Most Generous."
11. Dua When Exiting Masjid al-Haram
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَالصَّلاَةُ وَالصَّلاَمُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ
Bismillahi was-salatu was-salamu 'ala Rasulillah, Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik.
"In the name of Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, I ask You from Your favor."
12. Dua Upon Entering Masjid an-Nabawi (Madinah)
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَالصَّلاَةُ وَالصَّلاَمُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ، اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي ذُنُوبِي وَافْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ
Bismillahi was-salatu was-salamu 'ala Rasulillah, Allahummagh-fir li dhunubi waftah li abwaba rahmatik.
"In the name of Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, forgive my sins and open for me the doors of Your mercy."
13. Greeting Prophet Muhammad ﷺ at Sacred Chamber
السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ، أَشْهَدُ أَنَّكَ بَلَّغْتَ الرِّسَالَةَ وَأَدَّيْتَ الأَمَانَةَ وَنَصَحْتَ الأُمَّةَ
As-salamu 'alayka ya Rasulallah wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh, ash-hadu annaka ballaghtar-risalata wa addaytal-amanata wa nasahtal-ummah.
"Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. I bear witness that you conveyed the message, fulfilled the trust, and advised the nation faithfully."
14. Greeting Abu Bakr As-Siddiq (RA) & 'Umar ibn Al-Khattab (RA)
السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا أَبَا بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقَ، السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ، جَزَاكُمَا اللَّهُ عَنْ أُمَّةِ مُحَمَّدٍ خَيْرًا
As-salamu 'alayka ya Aba Bakrinis-Siddiq, As-salamu 'alayka ya 'Umarabnal-Khattab, jazakumallahu 'an ummati Muhammadin khayra.
"Peace be upon you O Abu Bakr As-Siddiq, peace be upon you O 'Umar ibn Al-Khattab. May Allah reward you both with goodness on behalf of the Ummah of Muhammad."
15. Dua When Visiting Mount Uhud & Martyrs' Cemetery
السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ دَارَ قَوْمٍ مُؤْمِنِينَ، وَإِنَّا إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ بِكُمْ لاَحِقُونَ، يَرْحَمُ اللَّهُ الْمُسْتَقْدِمِينَ مِنَّا وَالْمُسْتَأْخِرِينَ
As-salamu 'alaykum dara qawmin mu'minin, wa inna in sha'allahu bikum lahiqun, yarhamullahul-mustaqdimina minna wal-musta'khirin.
"Peace be upon you, O inhabitants of the abode of believers. Indeed, we, if Allah wills, shall follow you. May Allah have mercy on those who went before us and those who come after."
