Who is Obligated to Perform Qurbani? (Nisab Threshold)
Qurbani (Udhiyah) is a confirmed Sunnah (Sunnah Mu'akkadah) according to the majority of scholars, and mandatory (Wajib) according to the Hanafi school for every sane, adult Muslim who possesses wealth equal to or exceeding the Nisab threshold (612.36g silver or 87.48g gold in excess of basic personal needs) during the 3 days of Eid (10th, 11th, and 12th Dhul Hijjah).
Minimum Age and Physical Health Criteria for Sacrificial Animals
• Goats & Sheep: Minimum 1 year old (a 6-month-old stout lamb that resembles a 1-year-old is permissible).
• Cattle (Cow/Ox/Buffalo): Minimum 2 years old.
• Camels: Minimum 5 years old.
• Health Defects: Animals must be free from severe defects (blindness, severe illness, prominent limp/lame leg, extreme emaciation, or broken horns reaching the root).

Combining Aqiqah and Qurbani (Udhiyah) in One Large Animal / Camel
In large animals (cows, bulls, camels), strictly up to 7 distinct intentions/shares are allowed. Scholars (including Hanafi and Shafi'i jurists) permit combining Qurbani shares with Aqiqah shares for newborn children (2 shares for a boy recommended, 1 share for a girl) within the same 7-share animal, provided each participant pays their valid share.
Sunnah of Refraining from Hair & Nail Trimming
Based on the Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (Sahih Muslim), anyone intending to offer Qurbani is strongly recommended (Mustahabb) to avoid trimming their hair or cutting their nails from the 1st of Dhul Hijjah until their sacrificial animal is slaughtered.
Prohibition of Selling Qurbani Meat & Paying Butcher Fees with Meat
It is strictly impermissible to sell any portion of the Qurbani meat, fat, skin, or bones. Furthermore, the butcher or slaughtering agent cannot be paid using meat or skin as wages. Slaughtering fees must be paid separately out of standard funds.
