The Universal Text Line Numberer & Sequential Indexer is a fast, privacy-first, browser-based utility engineered for software developers, legal professionals, technical writers, and content creators. Effortlessly append custom line numbers, prefixes, suffixes, Roman numerals, zero-padded gutters, and multilingual Right-to-Left (RTL) Eastern Arabic, Urdu, Persian, and Hebrew indices to plain text, lists, and source code listings in real time.

Featuring customizable start values, step increments, whitespace trimming, and intelligent blank-line management (skip or freeze sequence counters), this tool eliminates monospace indentation shifts and manual indexing errors. With 1-click presets for code listings, legal outlines, Markdown ordered lists, and array indexing, you can drag-and-drop text files and instantly export your formatted documents as .txt or .md files. All computations execute 100% locally in your browser with zero server transmission for absolute privacy and data security.

This tool fully supports bidirectional indexing. When processing Right-to-Left (RTL) scripts, you can select native numeral systems including:

Eastern Arabic Numerals (١, ٢, ٣, ٤...) — Standard throughout the Arab world.
Persian / Urdu Numerals (۱, ۲, ۳, ۴...) — Extended Arabic-Indic numerals for Pakistan, Iran, and Afghanistan.
Arabic Hijai (أ, ب, ت, ث...) & Abjad (أ, ب, ج, د...) — Traditional alphabetical indexing systems.
Hebrew Gematria (א, ב, ג, ד...) — Standard Hebrew alphanumeric notation.

Use the Auto / LTR / RTL switcher to quickly lock text direction or allow automatic script detection.

Line numbering is essential across legal briefs, patents, court transcripts, and corporate contracts so attorneys, clerks, and judges can cite exact clauses and lines without ambiguity.

For technical documentation, numbered lists establish procedural hierarchies, while Roman numerals (I. Section, II. Subsection) and Alphabetical letters (A. Overview) clarify document structuring.

When displaying source code with line counts exceeding 9 (e.g. lines 1 to 100), single digits take up fewer column spaces than double or triple digits. Without zero-padding or right-alignment, your code statements shift to the right when transitioning from line 9 to line 10.

Enabling Zero-Padded Digits (e.g., 001 | , 002 | ) or Right-Align Numbers guarantees strict columnar alignment across all code blocks and monospace listings.

All string transformations, numbering sequence conversions, regular expressions, and file exports execute locally in your web browser using client-side JavaScript (ES6+). Zero plaintexts, proprietary code snippets, or confidential contracts are ever transmitted over the network or stored on any server.
