The Universal Torque Converter, Rotational Mechanics & Fastener Tension Studio on RiazHub is an advanced, high-precision moment of force metrology suite operating 100% in-browser with zero external API calls or server telemetry leaks. Built for automotive technicians, powertrain engineers, machinists, and mechanical engineering researchers, the studio delivers bidirectional conversions across 26+ torque units spanning five major measurement systems: SI Metric (N·m, kN·m, mN·m, N·cm, daN·m, MN·m), Imperial & US Customary (lb·ft, lb·in, oz·in, kip·ft, tonf·ft), Gravitational Metric (kgf·m, kgf·cm, tf·m), and CGS Absolute Dynamics (dyn·cm, pdl·ft).

Beyond basic dimensional conversions, the platform integrates three specialized engineering solvers: (1) The Short-Form Fastener Preload Solver (T = K·D·F), which calculates bolt axial tension force (kN and lbf) and tensile stress against ISO Class 8.8, 10.9, 12.9, and SAE Grade 5/8 proof load limits with real-time friction factor (K) sliders (0.08 to 0.25); (2) The Rotational Dynamometer Power-Torque Solver, calculating mechanical horsepower and metric kilowatts while dynamically illustrating the historic 5,252 RPM Imperial crossover anchor; and (3) The Torque vs. Work Clarifier HUD, resolving why 1 N·m of torque (vector cross product τ = r × F) is structurally and metrologically distinct from 1 Joule of energy (scalar dot product W = F · d). Complete with an interactive dual-scale analog torque gauge, physical analogs scale (from watch crown to 1.5 MN·m wind turbine rotor), 1-click clipboard/CSV exports, print/PDF stylesheets, and a 1200×630 specification dossier card canvas generator in four technical themes.

📚 Technical Standards, Bolt Clamping Mechanics & Disclaimers ▼
ISO 80000-4 & DIN 51309 Calibration

Under ISO 80000-4, the Newton-meter (N·m) is established as the primary unit for moment of force. Calibration of mechanical torque wrenches complies with ISO 6789 (Types I & II, classes A through G), typically guaranteeing ±4% accuracy for dial/click wrenches and ±1% for electronic transducers.

The Physics of Bolt Tightening (T = K · D · Fp)

In threaded fastener assemblies, approximately 50% of the torque applied is consumed by under-head bearing friction, 40% by thread flank friction, and only ~10% is converted into axial clamping force (Fp). Using thread lubricant (PTFE, anti-seize) drops K from 0.20 to 0.10, doubling clamping tension for the exact same wrench torque!

Pound-Foot (lb·ft) vs. Foot-Pound (ft·lb)

To avert confusion between torsional torque and kinetic work, mechanical engineering societies (SAE J1349, ASME) prescribe the pound-foot (lb·ft) for torque and reserve foot-pound (ft·lb) for energy. 1 lb·ft is defined as exactly 12 pound-inches (12 lb·in).
